Erasmus Leavitt’s “Ontario” Model Unveiling Join the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum in welcoming the “Ontario”, a model steam engine designed by Erasmus Leavitt (who also designed our massive Leavitt-Riedler engine). This model is graciously on loan from the Harvard Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments in Cambridge, MA. When: Wednesday, October 8, 2014

The Day the MetroWest Tunnel Broke Do you remember when an MWRA water main burst on May 1st, 2010 in Weston? Remember the subsequent “boil water order” that caused local Boston coffee shops to close, and bottled water sales to sky-rocket? Join Marcis Kempe, Director of the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum and former Director of MWRA’s Water System in looking back at the day the MetroWest Supply Tunnel burst, and find out how the Chestnut Hill Reservoir kept water flowing to the city of Boston. Screening of “Under Quabbin” In 2001, UMass Ahmerst biology professor Edward Klekowski brought cameras beneath the surface of the Quabbin Reservoir, to explore what was left of the four abandoned Swift River Valley towns. This unprecedented documentary first aired in August 2001 on WGBY. Join the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum as we take a look at what remains in “Under Quabbin”.
