The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) plans to hold a public meeting on Thursday, March 10, 6:30 – 8:00 at Newton City Hall. On the agenda will be a public discussion of a proposal for enhanced public access around Hammond Pond in Newton. Details about these enhancements were not disclosed, but the DCR added that they have recently awarded matching funds to the Michael Rudyak Memorial Fund for a study that will focus on the technical and environmental feasibility of constructing “enhancements” to Hammond Pond access. Last spring, the Michael Rudyak Memorial Fund proposed a floating boardwalk to stretch across Hammond Pond, with many conflicting reactions.
