Boston College Meeting: Construction on Commonwealth Ave.

BC project at 2150 Comm ave

Announcement from Boston College:

“The BC Task Force has scheduled three upcoming meetings:

* Thursday, May 9

* Wednesday, May 29

* Tuesday, June 18

All will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the The Brighton Marine Health Center, 77 Warren Street, Brighton. The main agenda item is the community benefits discussion, and given BC’s upcoming filing for the 2150 Commonwealth Avenue residence hall, we will also have time to discuss that process.

Please note that BC has filed an IMPNF to renew its Institutional Master Plan and to amend it to account for the differences between the proposed residence hall and the project approved in the IMP. BC has also filed a Project Notification Form to begin Large Project Review of the residence hall. The documents are available at the links in the text above. Comments should be submitted to me by June 3, 2013.”

Public Meeting on the MBTA Station at Boston College: Nov. 27, 6 pm

Public Meeting on the MBTA Station at Boston College. Originally scheduled for the night that Hurricane Sandy struck will now be held on:

Tuesday, Nov. 27th
6 pm
Newton City Hall
1000 Commonwealth Avenue
Room 222

Green Line – Boston College Station
Location: Chestnut Hill, MA
Consultant: Jacobs Engineering
MBTA Project Manager: Curtis Nikitas

This project is part of the Light Rail Accessibility Project. A new center-side platform station will be built on Commonwealth Avenue to provide a higher level of accessibility to all passengers. The station will include a full canopy over the Inbound platform, track relocation, installation of a diamond crossover, a mini-high and two portable lifts, and upgrades to all power, signal and communications systems. The new station will provide for more efficient train operations because the trains will cross the Lake Street intersection and move into and out of the yard with less frequency and the new diamond crossover provides for greater operational flexibility. In addition, the safety of our patrons will significantly improve as they cross Commonwealth Ave. and Lake Street via updated, accessible crosswalks and new traffic signals. Vehicular movements at the intersection will also benefit as a result of less train movements.

BC vs. Notre Dame Game festivities

In addition to increased evening traffic as a result of the BC v Notre Dame 8:00 PM Football Game (tonight, Nov. 10), BC plans to utilize special illumination pyrotechnic effects during the Star Spangled Banner, when Boston College scores, and at the conclusion of the game if BC wins.

The devices are primarily visual color displays that will be shot from the roof of the  Conte Forum side of Alumni Stadium, approximately 125-150 feet in the air.  Neighbors will see them, but unlike fireworks, there is no sound attached.

BC has assured the CHA that they have hired a very reputable and experienced company,  Atlas Pryo Fantasia, to provide the displays and have received approval from the Boston Fire Department, as well as City of Boston Consumer Affairs and Licensing Division.
