Cleveland Circle Development Plan provokes public discussion

Last Thrusday night, September 20, the recent public meeting concerning the Boston Development Group’s plan to redevelop the former Cleveland Circle and Applebee’s site generaged a vigorous debate, with more than 100 people showing up to debate the size and scope of the proposed project.

The project has changed from earlier proposals and currently includes a 236,500-square-foot building which would house 19,000 square feet of medical office space and 14,200 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space. The project would include 141 parking spaces in a garage below the building along with 87 other parking spots in surface lot behind the building. Many voiced concern of the the size and potential traffic and congestion resulting from the proposed project.

The developer hopes to start an 18-month construction process in spring 2013, pending approval from both the cities of Boston and Brookline.

The recent meeting was part of the approval process run by the Boston Redevelopment Authority. The public comment period is scheduled to close on Mon.
