Public Meeting about potential MBTA fare increases and service cuts

MBTA Fare Increases and Service Reductions – The MBTA is facing an operating deficit of up to $185 million for Fiscal Year 2013 and will be hosting at least 20 meetings to discuss options for how to close the deficit.

MassDOT prepared two scenarios, both of which include significant fare increases and service cuts, including elimination of weekend and late evening commuter rail service, and the total elimination of several bus routes serving Newton.

Newton is scheduled to host one of the public meetings, on Tuesday January 17th between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the War Memorial at City Hall.
