MWRA Invasive Species Removal at the Chestnut Hill Reservoir

As part of a long term invasive species eradication project at the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, MWRA will continue the removal process of invasive aquatic plants on Monday, August 1st. The process is expected to be completed in 4 weeks, Monday through Friday during the hours of 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM. The work will involve two aquatic plant harvesters  that will be in the reservoir for that time period.

Two 30 yard dumpsters and a sani can will be stationed on the path, directly across from the Waterworks Museum for the duration of this work. The dumpsters will be cordoned off with caution tape. Harvesters will offload plant matter routinely into the dumpsters and, when full, the dumpsters will be changed out. The harvesters will be moored in the reservoir overnight away from the shore to prevent vandalism or unauthorized access. The work crews will shuttle back and forth by
small boat to access the harvesters.

Eurasian milfoil is the main target and there will also be some curly leaf pondweed harvest.
